Hopp laments poor display after doubles decider win over Japan: "I'm really sorry for my performance, it wasn't the Max I know"

Germany will face off against England in the Quarter-Finals of the World Cup of Darts but the home heroes of Max Hopp and Gabriel Clemens are under no illusion that there is still work to do.

They faced off against Japan and were taken all the way to a doubles decider after Hopp was beaten easily by Yoshihisa Baba and he lamented his display post match.

"It was a crazy game," said Hopp. "I came good in the end but I'm really sorry for my performance tonight.

"It wasn't the Max I know, but Gabriel played a good first game and we showed some team character there and we are through to the next round.

"It wasn't the performance we expected from both of us. I only had one or two minutes before the Doubles but I had to fight for my country and I needed to put that right.

"We are just glad to be through. I think we both need to rest, forget this night and focus on tomorrow."
