Luke Humphries lost out to Peter Wright as he reached his second consecutive Quarter-Final in the PDC World Championship but as he explained for him to even run him close means a lot to him.
Humphries admitted that while he was the better player, he has been battling flu and so was pleased to play well as a result. He also heaped praise onto Peter Wright and he firmly believes that if he can stick to a set of darts he can be World Champion.
Finally he issued a call to Barry Hearn and the PDC Premier League selectors to put him in the tournament but knows that his defeat could have cost him that chance.
"There's no shame. The last two Quarter-Finals I've played, I've been blown out the water. I thought it was going 5-0, I've been very ill in the last 24 hours but I didn't play too bad; I probably played better than I did in the last few games. No excuses, he was just the better player," said Humphries to Dan Dawson after losing out to Wright.
"It's the frustrating thing about Peter (Wright), we know his capabilities but he just changes the darts too often. If he sticks to one set of darts, he could be one of the greatest. I hope he doesn't change because he has a huge chance of being World Champion. He's had a lot of tough run ins but has prevailed so stick to those darts and he could be World Champion."
"Put me in the Premier League, I know I can perform against the best. I'm dying to be in with the big boys. Unfortunately losing there has probably lost me my shot at the Premier League or the Premier League Contenders so I'll probably have to sit on the sidelines."
