Jules van Dongen two years ago became the second American ever to grab a Tour Card, but did not manage to perform enough to keep it sadly. In January 2024, Van Dongen managed to regain his Tour Card at European Q-School.
Recently,The Dutch American was a guest on the podcast "Double Top," where he talked about his recent form, among other things. Van Dongen was in good form in the second half of the 2023 season, but has not yet been able to continue this form in 2024. "Things are not going well at the moment. Mechanically it is not quite right, but I hope to get over it soon.'' Van Dongen himself explains.
''I am now having talks with
Glen Durrant to see if he can help me. On a mental level, but also on a mechanical level to hopefully make my style a bit easier.'' Besides the mechanical problems there is also a mental impact according to Van Dongen. ''I notice that when things are not going so well that you start thinking about everything, that becomes a bit of a problem. We are still early in the season, but I hope to find a solution soon so I can continue the line of last year.
The cause of his lesser form, according to Van Dongen, is trying out new material. ''I am working with other different material. Because of that I unconsciously started to adjust my style, which is now getting in my way. I'm going to try to play my way through it.'' The American-Dutchman, however, remains optimistic. ''My first year on the Pro Tour was very bad. The last 6 months of last year went a lot better,so I know I can do it. I also have 2 years of experience now, which I didn't have in my first year.''
As a tour card holder, Van Dongen, like compatriot Danny Lauby Jr. has been invited to participate in the US Darts Masters. The World Series tournament in New York will be played May 31 and June 1.
