Returning to the
US Darts Masters for the first time since he lifted the title back in 2019, Aspinall put in an emphatic performance, averaging 105 in a 6-4 victory over Matt Campbell.
"Matt Campbell is the guy that no one really wanted to play, to be honest. When I drew him I knew I had to perform. He's on the Tour and he's a fantastic darts player," said the Asp in a post-match interview. "I did perform and that's why I came out on top."
When Aspinall took the title back in 2019, the event was held in Las Vegas, meaning this was the 31-year-old's first taste of playing in Madison Square Gardens. "Even though to look at it, probably inside the venue it looked the same as any venue we play, it just felt different," he says. "The walk-on went off fantastic and it was just amazing."
"I backed it up with a fantastic performance," Aspinall continues. "Scored well, finished well and I'm happy to get past a very, very tough opponent... I'm just on cloud nine."
