"I'm not going to Australia and New Zealand this year": Van Gerwen set to skip World Series tournaments in August

After his recent successes in the Premier League Darts and on the World Series of Darts in New York, Michael van Gerwen is planning to take a break and skip the upcoming events Down Under.

Speaking on the MMA Hour to Ariel Helwani alongside Michael Smith, van Gerwen detailed just why he feels a break from the constant travelling is necessary.

"I live in Holland. So all the non televised tournaments that are in the UK or Germany, for me it's the same distance. So I have to fly weekly," explains the Dutchman. "August for me is a break because I'm not going to Australia and New Zealand this year."

"Is there no off season?" Helwani asks. "If you're not top 8/top 10 you'd have January off," answers Smith. "If you're in the top 8, playing these type of events there's no off season."
