Kirsty Hutchinson has qualified for the second round of the WDF World Championship at Lakeside. Last year's losing finalist defeated Japan's Mayumi Ouchi 2-0 in the first round.
Hutchinson lost in last year's final to Beau Greaves. "Coming into this week, I felt a lot more pressure than I did last time," opened the 32-year-old Englishwoman post-match. "Obviously, that is with making a world final. I feel like I was expected locally to do well and I felt a massive amount of pressure."
Coaching from Durrant
Hutchinson, however, did not have the best year of her career and therefore went in search of solutions. "Form has been up and down. I have struggled coming into this, probably mentally more than physically," she admits. "I went to see Glen Durrant for a coaching session and I feel that helped a lot. I spoke to him this morning before coming, and my head was put in the right place. I just needed to control those emotions."
"My dad saw that my game was struggling and I was mentally struggling, things weren't in the right place and he asked me to go and see Glen, get advice from Glen and in the first three darts he told me exactly what was wrong with my game. From seeing Glen I've implemented his advice into my game and I feel like it's helped a lot. So yeah, thank you Glen!"
Hutchinson will take on New Zealand's Wendy Harper in the second round on Thursday afternoon.
