On paper, a 6-0 opening-round victory at the New South Wales Darts Masters seems like a brilliant start for Dimitri van den Bergh. Despite this relative comfort of his win, the Belgian was still left frustrated by his performance, averaging just 82.73.
"I'm just really happy to have that 'W'," a visibly frustrated van den Bergh told Online Darts in a post-match interview. "It's such a strange game. It's annoying me at the moment. I'm really happy that I've managed to get that win."
Last time out in New Zealand, van den Bergh was unable to take the win, losing in the first round to Haupai Puha 6-2 despite a much better performance, averaging just shy of a ton. "Last week, I can say it again, I was the best player in the first round and went out," he recalls. "I felt the same, I've done the same, I had no different things that I've done today than I did last week, but yet I probably have the worst game of the lot."
"He gave me loads of opportunities and yeah, at the end of the day I took the advantage and I'm happy that I hit my doubles," van den Bergh concludes. "I'm sitting here, I've got the 'W' so we're on to tomorrow I want to do better."
