Kleermaker continues dream World Darts Championship debut with Whitlock win

Martijn Kleermaker is making amends for missing the PDC World Darts Championship last year with a 3-1 triumph against Simon Whitlock continuing his run at the Alexandra Palace.

Kleermaker will now face off against Joe Cullen in a tie which could be the underdog for tie of the round after Christmas.

To begin the tie, it was all square with Whitlock landing a 56 checkout before Kleermaker was then throwing for the set. But with a 48 checkout to hold, he took the opening set.

Whitlock lead the second set 2-1 and if he could hold throw, he would take it which he did on double 16. He produced another moment of brilliance taking out a 135 checkout to save the third set with Kleermaker throwing for a 2-1 lead.

But in the end with a 78 checkout on double six saw him break and he was soon one away. This seemingly broke the spirit of 'The Wizard' who was swept in the final set with Kleermaker hitting double 10 after initially dropping the dart.
