Alongside being a brilliant darts player, Chris Dobey is a massive Newcastle United supporter. That's why a message he recieved after his Masters win from a Newcastle legend meant so much to him.
"Grew up watching them and I can remember my grandad taking me to my first game years ago," Dobey says to Emma Paton on the Love the Darts podcast for Sky Sports. "We beat Everton in the FA Cup 4-1. It was a great game and obviously nice to get the win in my first game as well."
Dobey himself has now joined the winners circle. Claiming a first TV title earlier this year at the Masters. Following his victory, Newcastle icon and the record Premier League goalscorer, Alan Shearer got into contact with Dobey to send him a message of congratulations.
"He's a legend at the club," Dobey says full of reverence. "When I won the Masters he actually sent me a text message. It wasn't even on social media it was an actual text message. To recieve that off Alan Shearer was something special."
"After one of the games the other week I bumped into him in the elevator," continues 'Hollywood'. "I had the little boy and I said 'do you mind taking a picture' and he absolutely loved it."
'An actual text message from Alan Shearer, it was special!' 🤩@Dobey180 discusses his love for @NUFC, @alanshearer and more 🖤🤍
