GRANDPRIX RD1 DANNY NOPPERT MICHAEL VAN GERWEN8A
Danny Noppert booked perhaps the most beautiful victory of his career on Monday evening by dealing with Michael van Gerwen in the first round of the World Grand Prix.
But the former Lakeside finalist could not really enjoy it. Afterwards, it was mainly about a squabble between the two Dutchmen between the first and the second set. According to Noppert, Van Gerwen was stamping his feet on the stage when The Freeze was throwing on a double.
"I told him he stomped on the floor when I threw for a double. We then had words after the first set. After that I was throwing brilliantly, but I could see that he was pissed off'', the 30-year-old said.
There was nothing to see on the footage afterwards to indicate that Van Gerwen would have tried to put Noppert off. But that says nothing at all, according to The Freeze.
You can't see this on TV. It was my experience. I felt I had to say something about it and I did. I don't regret that. I hope Michael and I can speak to each other after this. If not, no hard feelings.''
