"Not a year that's going to take up a lot of my autobiography" -James Wade acknowledges tough 2023 but points out there's still time to put things right

James Wade starts this weekend's European Championship outside of the top-16 for the first time in 17 years. A tournament he managed to win in 2018. 'The Machine' will take on Dirk van Duijvenbode in the opening round.

Wade is hoping for a strong performance in Dortmund. "As far as darts goes, 2023 has not been a year that is going to take up a lot of space in my autobiography," the 40-year-old Englishman told Daily Star. "But the way the darting calendar works means that there is still plenty of time for that to change. The first opportunity to do something of note comes this weekend at the European Championships."

Besides the European Championship, Wade is focusing his arrows primarily on the Grand Slam of Darts. "A tournament I really enjoy and one I am desperate to get back to after not being there last year."

Wade has also been enjoying time off with his family. "Away from the dart board I am loving watching my boys growing up, and Arthur who has now started school is educating me on most things! Recently it seems to be the solar system that he is giving me a daily lesson on, so I am looking forward to finding out when my exam is!"
