Wales put a marker down in their opening match of the World Cup of Darts. The pre-tournament favourites were utterly dominant against Denmark, doing nothing to temper the expectations around the team of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton.
World Cup of Darts winners in 2020, Price and Clayton have great chemistry together. That, alongside their darting talent make them a formidable team, as shown in their 8-2 demolition of Denmark. "I thought we played pretty consistent," Price told Online Darts afterwards. "I thought we scored well, hit our doubles. A Littler bit of off-patches in between but it was our first game in the tournament. I think we've got a bit more in the tank."
"I'm playing behind a guy who makes it much easier for me," says Clayton, full of praise for his compatriot and teammate. "We clicked. Things went well, we played well, let's hope it continues."
Next up for Wales is a quarter-final tie with Sweden. Price and Clayton will go into the match as big favourites, but that's something they're both used to and thrive on.
"I think our biggest threat is ourselves," says Price, not worried from competition by the likes of English duo Rob Cross and Michael Smith. "If we don't perform we lose, if we perform we win and I think that's the confidence we need to have. It makes it a little easier once you've won it once. You can relax a bit because your not chasing it but you still want to win everytime you come here."
