Paul Lim aiming for another World Cup of Darts upset

Legendary Singapore thrower Paul Lim has orchestrated some memorable moments at the PDC World Cup of Darts.

The 65-year-old and partner Harith Lim have been Singapore teammates ever since the nation was introduced in 2014. Their most famous win came in 2017, when the duo knocked top seeds Scotland out in the first round. They have also beaten the likes of the Republic of Ireland and Spain in that time. With four out of five first round matches won, they have an almost unrivalled record among unseeded teams. "I always feel that the chance for a lower ranked country to beat a seed is in the opening round," said Lim to "It is a tough format for players who don't play together too often, but in soft-tip darts we play doubles all the time. "You get used to each other a lot more so maybe it gives us a little bit more of a chance in the first round." Last year, the Singapore Slinger helped the Asian nation to a win over New Zealand in round one. That was followed by a second round meeting with highly-fancied England. Lim opened the match with a 4-2 singles success over Rob Cross to sensationally put Singapore ahead. England recovered from the early setback, and won 2-1.

Lots of buzz

Lim is adamant that the magic is still there, even after decades in the game. His enthusiasm is being matched by more and more of his peers in Asia.
"I still get the same buzz from the game as I always have done.
"Sooner or later I know it's going to come to an end, that's life. But I still have a lot of heart in the game, I love darts so much and I still have that passion.
"I still get excited even now playing in tournaments, meeting new players and when I retire I will still be involved in the darts scene that's for sure.
"I think I've got a few more good years left and I hope I can make the most of them.
Lim added: "Darts is buzzing everywhere.
"I'm so glad we have a PDC steel-tip circuit in Asia.
"The sport is being shown a lot more on TV over here now and everyone wants to break into the World Championship or the World Cup of Darts. I think it will definitely continue to grow."
