Glen Durrant made his debut as a 'contender' in the Premier League Darts last year but is now in his first full league. The three-time Lakeside champion does that very well. After six nights, Durrant is the leader in the Premier League Darts. He claimed four wins, one draw and lost only one match.
Durrant opened the competition with a 7-3 win over Michael Smith, followed by a draw in Nottingham against 'Challenger' Fallon Sherrock. The damage could have been bigger for Duzza, as Sherrock led 6-4. With a point, the damage was somewhat limited.
On night three he defeated two-time Premier League champion Gary Anderson 7-4. One week later Durrant ran into a loss himself. Nathan Aspinall was too strong for the Middlesbrough ace, who dropped from first to fourth place in the league as a result.
Durrant got his first place back one week later. In Exeter, Gerwyn Price was beaten 7-3, who was third at the time. Number one Michael van Gerwen and number two Nathan Aspinall also were defeated. Durrant then kept the lead by beating Daryl Gurney 7-5 in Liverpool.
With nine points, Durrant is already certain of participating in the second half of the competition. The hunt for a position in the top four has already begun for the former BDO number one.
A tough schedule still awaits him in the last matches of the first competition phase. The Englishman takes on Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Rob Cross in Milton Keynes at the end of August. With about three points in the next three games, Duzza would already do excellent business towards the play-offs.
