Qualification criteria for 2023 Grand Slam of Darts announced

The PDC on Wednesday announced the qualification criteria for the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts. This year's event will take place from 11 to 19 November in Wolverhampton.

The qualification criteria are the same as last year. This means that once again no starting places will go to players from amateur tours, but instead, these places will be used for the best players from the PDC secondary circuits.

The first 16 spots go to winners and losing finalists of televised tournaments in the past 12 months. Defending champion Michael Smith, Masters champion Chris Dobey, UK Open winner Andrew Gilding, Players Championship Finals champion Michael van Gerwen, Grand Slam finalist Nathan Aspinall and Masters finalist Rob Cross are the first six qualifiers via this route.

Six more televised tournaments will be played until the Grand Slam, with room left for 10 players via this route. If these six tournaments (Premier League Darts, World Cup of Darts, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, European Championship, and World Series of Darts Finals) do not produce enough new finalists, then winners of Euro Tour tournaments and Players Championships will be considered.

Currently, Dave Chisnall, Gerwyn Price, and Jonny Clayton claim a place by winning one or more Euro Tours. Pro Tour tournaments, include Danny Noppert, Dirk van Duijvenbode, Kim Huybrechts, and Gary Anderson.

The next eight spots will be made available during a qualifying tournament for PDC Tour Card holders on Friday 3 November.

Eight spots will then remain. These spots will be given away to amateur darters, youth players, and female players. Josh Rock and Nathan Girvan, youth World Championship finalists, will get two of these places. Also, the winners of the North American Championship and PDC Asian Championship will also get an invitation.

The remaining places will go to the winners of the Challenge Tour, Development Tour, and Women's Series. Also, the winner of the Women's World Matchplay will get an invitation.
