Rowby-John Rodriguez produced a superb display to ease past Stephen Bunting 5-1 with an average of almost 105 in the end including 5/7 on his doubles.
Rodriguez now progresses to the Last 16 of the 2021
Grand Slam of Darts where James Wade will await and he didn't know how good his performance was with only one goal in mind.
"I just want to win the game and to get through, it was a straight knockout game so I knew what was on the line and I performed really good," said Rodriguez post match.
"I didn't even know I won five legs on the spin because I was focusing on winning that game. That's the most important, I just want to win this game."
Before the tournament, Rodriguez said that he knew it was a wide open group and that he just had to take his chances to claim his spot in the next round.
"When I saw the group even with Dimitri, my feeling was it was an open group. When people ask me, I told them okay maybe it's going to be a shootout but I knew there was chances to get through. I was confident to perform and I knew maybe two wins was going to get me through."
From losing his Tour Card, the Austrian has a new lease of life and he said it comes down to mindset and life at home being good.
"Everybody can play darts but if the personal life, family life, mindset is all right, we all can play darts. At the moment, everything is good. I had a bad two years, we have an operation in January but until then I'm living life, I'm happy to be here, I'm happy my daughter's healthy."
"I've grown up now, it's all experience. I'm not afraid of anybody like I perform at the moment. I'm really feeling confident and in my mind I can beat anybody."
