On Sunday, the eight remaining players continue the battle for the world title at the World Darts Championship. A good time to dive into the statistics of the eight quarter-finalists first.
We start with the tournament averages. On that list, Michael van Gerwen is proudly at the top. With a tournament average of 104.03, 'Mighty Mike' is the only player with a tournament average above 100. Michael Smith follows in second place with 98.17, followed by Stephen Bunting (98.01). This could potentially hold the key to who seals the title with the top two seen as a dream final now.
Of the eight quarter-finalists, Bunting has the most 180-scores to his name with 23. Chris Dobey, Van Gerwen's opponent, is second with 21 180-scores. Van Gerwen has eighteen himself and is also ahead of Smith and Jonny Clayton (both nineteen).
Clayton is the best finisher of the bunch with an excellent checkout percentage of 50.65 per cent. Dimitri van den Bergh follows in second place with 47.14 per cent. Van Gerwen is number three here with 42.53 per cent.
It is also notable that world number one Gerwyn Price is doing poorly in all statistics. 'The Iceman' has the last tournament average (93.76) and worst finishing percentage (34.31 per cent) of the eight quarter-finalists. His number of 180s (16) puts him in only seventh place, trailing only Van den Bergh.
