In his debut campaign,
Luke Littler recently crowned himself winner of the 2024
Premier League Darts. For the 17-year-old Englishman, nothing seems impossible at the moment.
At just 17 years old, Littler is (by far) the youngest ever winner of the Premier League Darts. "I found it fascinating to see him busy in the playoffs," said two time former World Darts Championship participant,
Jerry Hendriks on the podcast
'Double Top'. "You think at some point he's going to succumb to the enormous pressure, but on the contrary, when it became really important he started playing even better. He stayed so calm under the stress, really admirable."
"He sometimes comes across as shy in interviews, but on the oche none of that shows," Hendriks continued, immensely impressed by the performancs of The Nuke. "Especially towards the end of the final he couldn't miss anything. He played with so much confidence and nothing or no one was going to keep him from the final win."
Luke Littler proudly poses with Premier League trophy
For Littler, it was the first PDC major trophy of his still young career. "It will give him goosebumps to be announced by the master of ceremonies as the winner of Premier League Darts," Hendriks believes.
Van Gerwen won the Winmau World Masters at age 17 (he was a little older than Luke Littler though), can the two achievements be compared? "Littler does add to it anyway," Hendriks analyses of the two achievements. "Surely the Premier League Darts can be rated a bit higher, although the two generations can't really be compared."
"I also think all the players should thank Luke for the popularity boost the sport has received," concludes the Dutchman. "Everyone benefits from that and players will notice that in their bank accounts. Moreover, his achievements have helped the sport gain popularity in countries outside Europe as well."
