Phil Taylor as a 16x World Champion and former World Number One knows what it is like to be in Gerwyn Price's shoes as he embarks on his first year at the top of the PDC mountain.
Taylor spoke to the PDC and admitted that his life is going to fully change now but that he was glad to give him advice before the World's which he believes he took on board.
"I was pleased to see Gerwyn Price (win), we text each other a lot me and Gerwyn do, he's a good lad. I know he's got the little bit of oomph in his game but I do quite like that as well and a lot of players are doing that now.
"I see the dedication, he was asking me advice before the World's, I can only tell him what I did which I think he took on board and he's go in there and he's won it with style. I think he was the best player."
"I think with Gerwyn (Price), he's old school, he listens. He's a bit older than most players so he's a bit more sensible. Some players you can give advice and they will look at you like you fell off a banana tree."
"But Gerwyn takes your advice. He listens and he thinks I like that or I don't like that. He's a tryer and he wants to be the best at what he does."
On reaching that World Number One spot, he said his life is going to completely change.
"He's going to have a lot more work to do obviously. It all changes, Gerwyn said to me the day after I never realised how much work you did or World Champions have to do by interviews and personal appearances. Obviously it's a bit different now with Covid but his whole life is going to change now because he's a target. Anybody who beats him now, they beat the World Champion."
