Van der Voort hopes to never play at Winter Gardens in Blackpool again: "It's not only that venue, I think they should tear the whole place down and just build it up again"

One of the main aspects of the World Matchplay being moved behind closed doors was a new venue in the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes and while lots of players were gutted about the move from the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, Vincent van der Voort wasn't one of them.
Van der Voort saw off Dave Chisnall on Monday evening and claimed his first win since 2011 in the tournament and he is not a fan of Blackpool both in terms of the venue and the place itself.
“A win is always great in such an amazing tournament. The World Matchplay is after the Worlds the biggest tournament wise so yeah, I’m pretty happy," said Van der Voort post match with Online Darts.
“If they do that, they have my blessing. It’s not only the venue, but the whole city looks for renovation.”
He echoed these sentiments with Live Darts also after the match: "Every venue is better than the Winter Gardens. It's not only that venue, I think they should tear the whole place down and just build it up again and make it proper."

- Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
