Michael van Gerwen has won the fifth night in the Premier League. 'Mighty Mike' beat Jonny Clayton 6-3 in the final.
For Van Gerwen, it was the second weekly victory in a row. He is now leading the Premier League standings, six points ahead of number two, Michael Smith. "The most important thing tonight was the win, although the level here and there could be a bit better. Because of this victory, I am heading to the UK Open with a lot of confidence," Van Gerwen said.
The Dutchman was less pleased with the conditions in Exeter. Several players suffered from the cold temperatures and Van Gerwen blamed the organisation. ''The PDC simply failed. I arrive here at four o'clock and something is only done about it a little before seven, which is just too late. It's the same here every year, it's just cold here. You know that and then you have to do something about it. They (the PDC) may not acknowledge it, but it's the truth."
UK Open
That UK Open kicks off today. "I am leaving for Minehead as soon as possible so I can take the necessary rest before my first match. I'm keen to perform well at this first major of the year. I am not reaching my best level yet, but even so I can win against anyone, that should worry the opposition."
