Van Gerwen disappointed with heavy defeat against Durrant: "He rarely throws as well"

Michael van Gerwen was subjected to a heavy defeat against Glen Durrant on the eighth night of the Premier League. He lost out 7-3 and the latter also kept his unbeaten record against the World Number One.
“I think that we both started the match very poorly”, Van Gerwen said to RTL 7. “Afterwards I failed to put him under pressure and then he started playing really good." “He rarely throws as well as he does today, so you are fed up. It was not terribly bad for me, but it must be better in the coming days and I will also show that I am capable of that.
” He also seemed to be quite irritated on stage. “Mainly about my own game, not so much about him. I also think it's right that I started to get irritated, then you just know that things have to be better.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
