Michael van Gerwen on Sunday afternoon failed to force an all-Dutch semi-final against Dirk van Duijvenbode at the
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.
The three-time world champion held a 6-4 lead against Jonny Clayton, but eventually lost 10-7 to the defending champion at the AFAS Live. So that means Clayton will be Van Duijvenbode's opponent in the last four on Sunday night.
''Very disappointing,'' Van Gerwen bemoaned to Viaplay afterwards. ''This is not the most important tournament, but in front of your own crowd you want to show something.''
According to the Dutchman, Clayton's 121 finish immediately after the break for 6-5 was the turning point in the match. ''That 121 finish hurt me a lot. Right on the chin? Yes, and hard too. He's not in fantastic form and I'm on the way back, but then you have to punish that.''
