The question has swirled around since Michael van Gerwen sealed the World Matchplay to add to Premier League Darts glory about whether or not he is back but statistics indicate he is.
At the end of July 2019, Van Gerwen had sealed nine titles and ended up with fifteen for the year. This before the biggest crisis period of his career which saw Van Gerwen achieve seven titles over the course of two years.
Van Gerwen has already won as many titles in 2022 as in 2020 and 2021 combined. After seven months, the counter stands at seven, including two majors.
One remarkable detail though; his annual average is currently lower than in 2020 and 2021. However compared to previous years, he has been a lot more effective on the oche.
