Ryan de Vreede ended Francesco Raschini's debut World Championship campaign at 2022 WDF Lakeside after pinning a 136 checkout in the deciding leg.
De Vreede stole the opening set with Raschini busting 60 by hitting a treble in the deciding leg and it was the Dutchman who took it. The Italian in a superb final leg took out 251 in six darts to make it a final set.
It was more darting drama as De Vreede ended Raschini’s campaign with a stunning 136 checkout in the final leg with Jules van Dongen next up as ‘The Dutch Dragon’ aims to topple ‘Pacman’.
While Lee Shewan saw off his best friend Jordan Brooks over three sets coming back after a superb start from 'The Sheriff' to book a second round tie with Wayne Warren.
Brooks started really well on his debut and took out 56 on the Shewan throw with the latter waiting to strike and break back and ‘The Sheriff’ was one away from the opening set averaging around 100.
Shewan got a first leg on the board with two double eights pinned and Brooks’ game started to tail off allowing Shewan to suddenly throw for the set which he pinned with a 96 checkout.
Brooks missed three at double 20 to break throw but Shewan missed 106 and allowed Brooks back for double four to go one away from levelling up which he did.
Brooks was handed multiple opportunities to break but kept spurning them and Shewan hit double one to hold. The former handed Shewan break opportunities in a mirror leg but this time after busting on double seven, Shewan went one away and he claimed it from there.
While Vicky Pruim claimed a huge win seeing off Desi Mercer in a massive result for the Antwerp ace.
Pruim saw double 18 come to her rescue to pinch the opening set and left 32 in a 162 to leave 32 in a great setup as her game improved.
She messed up the initial finish and this proved pivotal as Mercer returned for double three. She missed three to break and Prium hit 56 to go one away. Mercer pinned double two to send the set all the way but Pruim hit double 15 to move through.
