Jarno Bottenberg impressed at times during his Lakeside debut this past December and he will return there later this year already after taking the biggest title of his career at the Dutch Open Darts.
Bottenberg defeated the World Master, Wesley Plaisier 3-2 in sets who despite winning the second biggest tournament in the WDF last year has failed to kick on in terms of winning a Tour Card in the PDC and reached the Quarter-Finals at Lakeside.
The crowd got what they wanted in terms of an all Dutch final and as expected like when Berry van Peer won it last year a Dutch winner as Bottenberg survived the 1,000's of entrants to seal the deal.
It was a fairly comfortable start for Plaisier who was rampant in the opening set. Bottenberg started to grow into it sealing the second and third sets including a 14-darter on the Plaisier darts to begin set three. Plaisier hit back with a rampant set of his own to send it all the way and potentially put doubt in the mind of Bottenberg. But it was all on the shoulders of the 22-year-old.
Plaisier despite taking the match the distance had a chance to hold and keep himself in it and couldn't take it looking bewildered. Bottenberg stepped up but clattered off the other barrel looking at 74 and double 20 for the title. Plaisier returned to hit double eight and hold throw. Bottenberg's chance was on his own throw.
Bottenberg hit a 131 checkout in stunning fashion though with Plaisier waiting using two double 20's to claim the title. What an effort from 'Bottie'.
