GREAVES WINS IN SWEDEN! Beau Greaves wins three of the last four legs to beat Deta Hedman 5-4 and win the Women's Swedish Open. The victory takes the reigning World Champion to seven WDF ranking titles in 2023.
Thomas Junghans and Beau Greaves won the singles titles at the WDF Swedish Open in Malmö on Saturday. Junghans took the title in the men's tournament.
The Swiss reached the final with wins over Joakim Kulan (4-0), Roland Lenngren (4-1), Karl Helgi Jonsson (4-1), Jarno Michielsen (4-1), Oskar Lukasiak (4-3) and Jan MacIntosh. Then in the final, Junghans was too strong for Darren Johnson, 6-4.
The women's tournament was won by home favorite Greaves. After victories over Kitta Einarsdottir (4-0), Snezana Veljkovic (4-0), Adriana van Wijgerden-Vermaat (4-1) and Paula Jacklin (4-1), she ran into serious trouble in the semifinals against Kirsty Hutchinson. However, with a 170 finish in the deciding leg, the 19-year-old Englishwoman managed to save herself, after which Greaves won 5-4 over Deta Hedman in the final.
