Van Peer virtually qualified for Lakeside, but doubts over whether he is eligible to play in WDF World Championship

Berry van Peer won the WDF Swedish Masters last weekend in Malmö, Sweden, virtually qualifying him for the WDF World Championship at Lakeside in December 2023.

However, Van Peer also appears to have secured participation in the PDC World Darts Championship via the PDC Challenge Tour, plus a PDC Tour Card for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. As a result, it is not yet certain whether 'Bionic' will actually be allowed to compete at Lakeside.

Because the WDF World Championship is before the PDC World Championship, there were no obstacles from the PDC. That would have been different if the order had been the other way around. So now the ball is in the WDF's court, which has to decide if they want to admit players who will also play at another association's World Championship.

Van Peer is therefore not the only player in the waiting room. The same goes for Beau Greaves, who qualified for the tournament in Alexandra Palace with her final victory at the Women's World Matchplay.
