Gurney and Van den Bergh among top maximum-hitting players

Kempf pored through the statistics to judge how many times players had hit three big trebles in a visit. He counted the 180s, 177s, 174s and 171s struck in the last two months. All players who have played more than 100 legs since the end of December were included.
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Michael van Gerwen tops the list. Mighty Mike has managed 208 maxima in 523 legs, at a rate of 0.3977 per leg. Following very closely in his wake are a pair of rising stars. Daryl Gurney, the world number five, is a well-known power scorer. Superchin has gone at a rate of 0.3908 three-treble visits per leg. After him is world youth champion Dimitri van den Bergh, who will find three big trebles 0.3879 times per leg on average.
Following the trio are the world number three and four, Rob Cross and Gary Anderson. PDC Pro Tour newcomer Jose Antonio Justicia Perales follows them, having hit 0.3697 maxima per leg. Peter Wright and Raymond van Barneveld are two surprise strugglers. Snakebite has only struck a perfect visit 0.2532 times per leg on average. Barney has done ever-so-slightly worse, managing a rate of 0.253.
