Lewis was impressive in seeing off a potential banana skin in ‘The Hunter’ Adam Hunt. It was two maximums with a 95 average for ‘Jackpot’ with a high checkout of 126 in a great performance from the two time World Champion.
Before that on the main stage,
Keegan Brown edged past Benito van de Pas in a win he clinched with a classy 144 checkout. ‘The Needle’ along the way hit four maximums and a 89 average. Van de Pas showed flashes of returning to his former self but only averaged 79 in defeat.
In terms of stage two, there were class victories for
Nathan Aspinall and
Gabriel Clemens. Despite winning a first
PDC title this season, Aspinall’s win over Schindler was a shock. ‘The Asp’ smashed ‘The Wall’ 6-1 hitting a 96 average on his way to a brilliant victory. Clemens also looked class sealing a 6-3 victory against Andrew Gilding. He did so with a 121 checkout and sixty percent on the doubles along the way. ‘Gaga’ should have claimed a first PDC title earlier this year and hasn’t had the same form since. He looked good here though and moves through to the second round in Minehead with ease.
