Phil Taylor and
Corey Cadby renewed their
world series battle in Melbourne, with the Power matching Whitlock’s earlier effort of stealing the last 3 legs. A 180 in each of the last 3 legs helped Taylor take advantage of a slack few legs from Corey. Last week’s finalist going off the boil at the wrong time after opening up a lead and looking like he would defeat the 16-time world champion once again.
It was a slow burner, the crowd struggling to get involved in the early stages after the excitement of the previous match. Taylor took the early advantage capitalising on missed doubles from Cadby, who could have led 3-0. Missed doubles, rather than ton plus averages appearing to be the theme of all matches in Melbourne this year.
Cadby pegged it back to 4-3 before the interval, before finishes of 99 and 121 opened up a 7-5. A 117 out from Taylor keeping him within touching distance at 7-6. The pair would then trade holds of throws until 9-7, before the Power used all his experience, and a 110 average in the final 3 legs to claim revenge over the World Youth Champion.
Taylor will face the final Australian left in the draw, Simon Whitlock in the semi-finals tomorrow.
