Michael van Gerwen did not progress beyond the quarter-finals at the third week of play of Premier League Darts in Glasgow. 'Mighty Mike' lost to Nathan Aspinall in the opening match on Thursday night.
Van Gerwen was broken in the third leg after a 14-darter from Aspinall. With a 58 finish and a 68 check-out, he then ran out to 4-1. However, Van Gerwen battled his way back to 4-3 with two 12-darters, the last with a 170 finish.

However, Aspinall held the break by making it 5-3 with a 15-darter. Van Gerwen stayed in the match with a 13-darter, taking him to 5-4. He then broke Aspinall with a 14-darter and then got to start the final leg.
However, Van Gerwen had a deplorable last leg with five trebleless turns. Aspinall took advantage and eliminated Van Gerwen with a 16-darter with MVG out of sorts throughout.
In the semi-final, Aspinall will take on Dimitri van den Bergh who extended Peter Wright's pointless streak to three nights in a 6-4 win.
A home hero in Glasgow but he won't be taking home one of the five nights he said he'd win by the end of the tournament tonight with 'The Dreammaker' spoiling the party in Scotland.
