Beaton relieved after Sherrock win at PDC World Darts Championship: "I've had sleepless nights"

Steve Beaton is through to the second round at the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Fallon Sherrock in a superb display from the legendary Bronzed Adonis.

Beaton was the subject of increased scrutiny due to playing the Queen of the Palace and he discussed that increased scrutiny as well as producing one of his best games in a long time.

"People don't understand I've had two or three weeks to dwell on this game and people just telling me who I'm playing. All the hype, people don't understand you're up there on your own and there's only one person that can play the game and I'm so happy I won the game and I played well as well because Fallon played so well. For me, that's one of the best results I've had," said Beaton post match.

"The problem with my game is that I can practice like that and I can do them averages all the time but I just can't seem to take that up onto the stage. Maybe tonight I was in another zone and I just dug deep."

In his 31 consecutive years, Beaton has always been a fans favourite but last night saw him receive booing from certain sections of the crowd but he said it wasn't as bad as made out.

"I thought I was going to get a lot worse than that and I thought they were quite good all the way through the game. I didn't want to go to that last leg."

He also discussed Sherrock and Lisa Ashton and the perception/stigma of playing either of them and he admitted it has weighed on his mind.

"You've got to treat everyone the same now because I've always said there's no reason why a girl can't play as good as a man and Fallon's proved the point."

"I've had sleepless nights and everything. Nobody wants to play Fallon or Lisa, it's just the way the draw comes out."
