Andy Boulton currently sits just inside the top 64 in the Order of Merit in 52nd place and at the last Super Series managed to make it to the semi-final.
As a result, it was a saving grace from the last block of Players Championship tournaments and he discussed his form so far this season to Tungsten Tales.
"I'd say I'm doing alright, the normal could do better sort of thing. I've had a couple of good runs. Darts is so weird sometimes, some days you play really well and maybe get one or two victories out of it and then I had a run to the semi-finals in Germany. I played well in one or two games but I played a lot better this season but I had a bit of the rub of the green," said Boulton to Tungsten Tales.
A lot was made about the Super Series in terms of the travel and quarantine on the way back and he admitted that for a player in his position, it isn't a decision he can make.
"I'm not in the position that I can choose whether I'm going or not. My hands are behind my back a little bit. If you're top 16 in the world, you can maybe have that decision to go or not to go. I think if I'd have had the decision, I probably wouldn't have gone. I think it was a lot of effort, it was a lot of trials and tribulations just to get there. I'm not a fan of the bubble scenario, I'm a guy that likes to be social."
World Matchplay aspirations and Scotland switch
Sitting only a few thousand pounds outside the spots for the World Matchplay currently, compared to other players, it is on the mind of 'X Factor'.
"It's been on my mind since the start of the season. I had a season a bit back where I was within a few thousand pounds of it so I've had that experience of being in a similar situation. I'm someone that's very conscious of rankings."
While, he also switched allegiances to Scotland on residency grounds at the start of the year and explained the reasonings for that.
"I've lived here now nearly 14 years. I've got a son who's 10 so obviously he's Scottish. This is my home now, it's more of an honour really. I'm proud to represent Scotland."
