🗣️"The one I am most focused for is the Worlds. My TV runs have been disappointing but that will change" Hear from a laser-focused Josh Rock after picking up his third title of 2024 at Players Championship 30...
Josh Rock has won the final Players Championship of the year. 'Rocky' was too strong for Jonny Clayton 8-7 in the final in Leicester. For Rock, it is his second Players Championship title of the year. The 23-year-old Northern Irishman was obviously beaming afterwards, but also sees working points for the coming months.
Rock gained a 6-2 lead in the final, but then saw Clayton come back. In the end, the very last leg had to provide the decision. “That was a very, very tough game," said Rock, who defied an average of 106.38 from Clayton to prevail with an average of 102 of his own.
Heavy competition
Rock also took time to laud his opponent afterwards saying that thankfully he was able to get a foothold and stave off a charging Clayton.
“That is why Jonny is one of the best players in the world. He just doesn’t go away! He knows what to do, how to do it and when to do it. He came back brilliantly there, but thankfully I hit that 118 checkout!”
Disappointing
Rock moved up to fifteenth place in the world rankings thanks to his title. Earlier this year, he also won a tournament of the European Tour (Dutch Darts Championship). Still, the 23-year-old Northern Irishman is not entirely satisfied.
“My TV performances in the last two years have been disappointing, but that will change,” vowed the former World Youth Champion. "I don’t know why it hasn’t been happening on the big stage, because I’m not doing anything different.
“I’m not feeling nervous up there, but things will change, and the one I am most focused for is the World Championship.”
