The "VTM Darts Academy" is running at full speed. Led by coach and mentor Erik Clarys, the Belgian broadcaster hopes to help a number of compatriots get a Tour Card.
Clarys selected 34 players who meet twice a month for an intensive four-hour training session. "Each time, the players play matches against each other in a best-of-9 format, supplemented by two drills - check-outs that are important in a match, for example," Clarys told HLN.

"For example, there is a ranking each time, which is updated each training session. I also give the players as many tips and tricks as possible to deal with mental games in matches, for example. There is actually no way to train for that, but they have to be armed for it. Math is also covered, so that is not forgotten. With some players, I also talk individually about what they need to work on at home."
"After the final practice, in mid-December, the final rankings will help determine which 15 players will be selected by me to participate in the Q-school," Clarys continued. "The top ten are normally sure of their spot, between spot 11 and 25 I will then choose the final five players based on talent, work ethic and motivation, among other things."
Clarys is already extremely hopeful. "In my opinion, with our selection we can run three Tour Cards at the Q-School. With a bit of luck it could even be more. I estimate that 10 to 12 of our participants have the potential to grab such a Tour Card."
