Danny Noppert doesn't mind that namesake is now in spotlight: ''He's wholeheartedly grateful for that''

During this period, a namesake of Danny Noppert is in the spotlight in full force. Andries Noppert is in goal for the Dutch national team during the World Cup.

Het Algemeen Dagblad asked Danny Noppert if he is still the most famous Noppert? "No, not anymore. That Andries is doing great of course, I grant it all to him. He gets all the attention now. With the first World Cup Café de Stam was full for me and now for him. And rightly so, he deserves it," the reigning UK Open champion responded.

'The Freeze' himself has hardly any contact with the goalkeeper of his favorite soccer club Heerenveen. ''I also liked the fact that he made the step to Heerenveen. I also sent him a message with 'well done, put it on'. Then he said 'thanks' I think, but we don't really know each other," Noppert said.

However, research by Omrop Fryslân this week revealed that the two Nopperts are indeed related. The archives revealed that Andries Noppert and Danny Noppert are great-great-great-great-great-great-nephew of each other. Jan Otten is their ancester nine generations ago.
