The final victory at the 24th Players Championship of the year went to Wessel Nijman. The Dutchman defeated Englishman Stephen Bunting 8-5 in the final in Wigan on Tuesday afternoon. However, there was another player who particularly impressed.
That player was none other than Gary Anderson. The 53-year-old Scot, winner of two Players Championships already this year and once a losing finalist, piled up the high averages at PC24. In fact, with averages of 114.41 (in the last 16 against Luke Humphries), 111.03 (in the third round against Dimitri Van den Bergh) and 108.78 (in the quarterfinals against Dom Taylor) he accounted for the three highest averages of the day.
Anderson closed on a tournament average of 105.48, although he was eventually left stranded in the semifinals following a 7-5 defeat to the day's eventual winner, Nijman.
Notably, the next highest average also comes from a Scot, in the form of Andy Boulton's 108.55, before a trio of Dutch darting stars, Dork van Duijvenbode, Richard Veenstra and the aforementioned Nijman.
Completing the list of highest averages we find the likes of Luke Littler, Jermaine Wattimena, Andrew Gilding and Martin Lukeman.
