Berry van Peer failed to capture a PDC Tour Card at the Q-School earlier this year, but '
Bionic' did not have to shut down by any means. The Dutchman played almost all Pro Tour tournaments, played some WDF tournaments and participated in the MODUS Super Series.
Ultimately, it became Van Peer's most successful year of his career, including final wins on the PDC Challenge Tour and the Dutch Open title. His Challenge Tour triumph qualified him for the Grand Slam of Darts and the upcoming World Darts Championship.
Van Peer played at the Grand Slam of Darts in November, where he got to warm up before the World Darts Championship. ''It's three stage matches, so that's favorable,'' Van Peer reasoned in conversation with FlashScore. "Still, it's an important tournament and I went there to get through my group."
Van Peer did not succeed though, losing all his three group matches. However, the Dutchman did manage to throw a higher average than his opponent in all of his matches, a unique feat at the Grand Slam of Darts. "A record you don't really want to have. Nice, but terrible at the same time,'' Van Peer said.
The climax of the season will follow on December 21 at Alexandra Palace, where Van Peer will make his debut against Luke Woodhouse. About his objective in London, Van Peer is clear.
"My goal is actually to get straight through the first round on my debut," Van Peer said. "And then a rematch with Rock. And if I win that, I'll be very satisfied. Although I really know I want even more then."
