"He always ends up falling just a little short" - Clarys passes harsh judgment on Van Barneveld

Raymond van Barneveld was stranded in the quarter-finals of the World Series of Darts Finals last weekend in Amsterdam.

Van Barneveld took a 6-3 lead against Peter Wright, but then lost seven legs in a row and the match. "Also in the second round Raymond already played a long match (against Michael Smith e.d.), in such a weekend where the matches follow each other in quick succession you need a long breath and it just didn't work out," said Erik Clarys, analyst with the Belgian channel VTM 2.

"I also talked about it with Chris Mason (former pro darter and currently active in television e.d.). He agreed with me that while Raymond can play some high-level matches, he always ends up falling just a little short."
