At the Mattioli Arena in Leicester, the 2024 World Grand Prix gets underway later today. One of the standout ties of the first round is the duel between former world champions Gary Anderson and Michael Smith.
Anderson was already a losing finalist once in 2016 and appears to be in excellent form. In recent weeks he piled up high averages on the Pro Tour. "He is showing some form at the moment isn't he," laughs Sky Sports analyst Laura Turner via the Love the Darts podcast. "I think he's got the most ton-plus averages this year and we've even seen some 110+ averages from Gary. It's just natural talent isn't it and he's just beautiful to watch when he's up on that big stage."

Another Sky Sports analyst, Michael Bridge, also believes in the 53-year-old Scot's chances at the World Grand Prix. "He's in a good place and I actually believe what he says when he says: I'm here to annoy the top seeds," Bridge explains. "If he beats Michael Smith and he gives an interview, you just know he'll say: I just want to play darts!"
"He's pretty much done it all so he's just enjoying it, picking up a few quid along the way and entertaining us in the process," Bridge concludes.
