Hopp on losing German Number One spot following Mathers win:: "It's never been such a big thing"

Max Hopp is through to the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Gordon Mathers.

Hopp this year due to the emergence of Gabriel Clemens has lost his German Number One status but this isn't something which he is that bothered about he revealed in his post match interview.

"The first set, everything went kind of well for me. The second set we had a struggle on double 10 but in the end, Gordon really kicked in. I could hear him behind me motivating himself, I thought come on take your chances, stay calm and you'll be through," said Hopp post match.

"There still is, I mean if you lose your number one spot, they're discussing if he's going to get back or is he going to stay Number Two. I mean for me and Gabriel, it's never been such a big thing obviously outside the press, they really jump on it. At the moment, he definitely is the better player but I think we both want to improve in the World ranking."

"Together with Nico, we want to give German darts the next steps because compared to the other countries, we are still a little bit far off. Now we feel we have competitive players to give it that final push."
