Gian van Veen is only in his second year on the PDC Pro Tour but the 22-year-old Dutchman has already moved up to 32nd in the world rankings.
Van Veen did great in his debut year on the PDC Tour last year, even reaching the semifinals at the European Championship. He continues his rise this year as well. "I'm really enjoying my darts at the moment. It's going well this year," he says in conversation with Darts Asylum. "I had a great year last year, so I was always kind of intrigued to see how this year would go. But yeah, I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm happy with where I am."
"I graduated last year in August, so that was done. Then I took a part-time job with the aviation, I studied aviation so I did apart-time job in aviation, which I quit at the start of this year. So since January, I've been full-time dart player," he continues. "That's really nice. You know, after a busy weekend of darts, to come home and not have to worry about work anymore, it's been really nice."

Van Veen had set himself one big goal before this year began. "At the start of this year, someone asked me, 'what are your goals?' My goal for this year is to pick up a title and I feel it's coming," the Dutchman explains. "At the UK Open, I was 7-3 up against Damon Heta and lost 10-8, so that was rrally a sore moment for myself. But I feel a big run is coming."
"I realize I have to be patient," continued 'The Giant'. "After all, it's only my second year on the Pro Tour. The important thing is that I keep making steady progression and certainly won't skip any steps. This year my averages may not be as high as last year, but I'm winning more matches, so that's proof that I can also finish more difficult matches."
