King on 'overreacting' following Hopp win: "That doesn't bode well with me"

Mervyn King is successfully through to the third round at the PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off Max Hopp in convincing fashion 3-1.

King spoke afterwards including about the first set in which he averaged 110 and while he couldn't maintain that, it was still a great display.

"They were doing that for the last hour in practice. So I was just hoping that it would carry on up there and it did, unfortunately I lost it a bit and allowed him back into the match but if that would have carried on, I think that might have been 3-0," said King post match.

"Max is a dangerous player. He can play the game and play the game to a very good standard so you can't afford to let him back in which I've done and I nearly paid the price."

He also spoke about previously being written off before his upturn in form and also overcelebrating after his final defeat to Michael van Gerwen at the Players Championship Finals where he was left bemused at some of the celebrations of the World Number One.

"I think other people are more concerned about my form and writing me off. I've always believed even when things don't go, I'm still practicing well. I think other people have been worried about my lack of form than myself."

"I can understand the celebrations at a pivotal time of the game but when you're screaming and shouting the place down just because you've hit double eight, it's just won you another leg and there's still miles to go that doesn't bode well with me. It's over-reacting, it's over celebrating."
