Maik Kuivenhoven got off to an excellent start at the World Series of Darts Finals. The 33-year-old Dutchman defeated the Scot John Henderson 6-2.
Kuivenhoven retained his Tour Card only extremely narrowly at the end of last year. "I've played pretty well this year, but now to be able to experience this in my own country is great. It's great to be able to play at tournaments like this and especially in my own country", said Kuivenhoven to Darts Actueel.
"I was tense all day," continues Kuivenhoven. "Every time you throw a double, there is an automatic adrenaline with such a great crowd behind you. Actually my form wasn't that good at all, but luckily my doubles came through."
Three in a row against Van Gerwen?
A duel with Michael van Gerwen awaits in the second round. "I'm looking forward to it with confidence. In the past I played against him twice before and each time I won. Hopefully I can continue that winning streak here.
