Players Championship 12: Gerwyn Price wins an incredible third title of the year

Gerwyn Price wins a third title this season in Leicester at Players Championship 12 on Wednesday evening despite only having played in ten of the events. Price was too much for Rock, beating him 8-7 in the final after a stunning tournament where he registered two averages over 110.

The final started with Price in complete control. He held in the opening leg before breaking in twelve darts with a 126 checkout to go 2-0 up. After that, he got another two legs on the board to lead 4-0.

Rock broke Price's throw to stop his run to the title, an eleven dart leg getting rock onto the scoreboard. From there the Northern Irish number one held his throw to bring it to 4-2 before Price resumed control, leading 5-2.

Rock made a great comeback, winning two legs on the spin to break it back to throw at 5-4 before Price broke in fourteen darts to bring the match to 6-4. The Iceman held in eleven to go one away from the title but the match was extended by Rock holding and taking the match 7-5. Price threw for the match in the thirteenth leg but was unable to close it out, Rock checking out in eleven darts after missing double 12 for the nine-darter, Rock held again to bring the match to 7-7 and set up a last-leg decider for the title, which Price won, holding in fourteen darts for the match.
