It has been a week since
Luke Humphries crowned himself world champion for the first time in his career.
Humphries defeated compatriot Luke Littler 7-4 in the final of the World Darts Championship. The 28-year-old Englishman thus not only captured his first world title, it was already his fourth major victory in a few months. 'Cool Hand Luke' is also the world number one.
In second place in the world rankings we find Michael van Gerwen, who at the last World Cup disappointingly went down in the quarter-finals against Scott Williams. "This is a huge disappointment, this was not how I wanted to start the new year," 'Mighty Mike' announced via X.
Revanche
Humphries therefore holds that Van Gerwen is bent on revenge and wants to regain his place at the top soon. "I know Michael wants to beat me, of course he does," he says. "We'll see what happens, but that's the beauty of our sport - we get new personalities, new players, there's a new generation now. Michael will want to knock me off my spot, I know that. But I'm going to stay there for a few more months, that's for sure."
