Martin Lukeman the English 37 year old has made his way to the quarter finals at the 2022 BoyleSports World Grand Prix. The current World No.42 showed his positivity in an interview with 'Online Darts TV' after his 3-2 win against Ross Smith.
“I was fighting for my tour card at the beginning of the year now I’m in the quarters of a major, It’s crazy isn’t it, absolutely crazy ”
“I’m going to take it game by game, I know I can beat anyone in there on my day”
However it wasn't all plain sailing for Lukeman as he had the opportunity to put the game to bed however he miscounted his score and thought he was on 35 when really he was on 45. The quarter finalist threw a three in his first shot and then had two attempts at double 16 thinking that's all he needed to get the win. Although he lost that leg Lukeman showed his composure to win in the final leg.
“I don’t know what happened there. [before final leg] If you watched me on stage, I closed my eyes had a breath and thought lets go”
“If you look at my results at the players championships there was a lot of 6-5’s and I kept losing them last leg deciders… But I learnt a lot last year I just thought relax Its one game of darts, 501 lets go”
Martin Lukeman has earned himself a minimum of £25,000, a rank of 42nd in the world and has now secured a spot at the World Championships this year. Lukeman had this to say about his achievements.
"Its everything we wanted, we can relax now. My wife’s a prison officer so she can give that up I don’t want her to be put in danger no more... I was 111th ranked at the beginning of the year anything can happen darts is so crazy."
“[World Championships] I’m up for it lets do this, I’ve had so much stage experience this year its game on!”
Lukeman will now face Nathan Aspinall in the quarter finals of the BoyleSports World Grand Prix.
“I’ve never played Nathan so that will be interesting, but yeah it’s a game of darts at the end of the day anything can happen lets go”
