Reece Robinson has captured a Challenge Tour title for the first time in his career. In the final of the ninth event, the Englishman defeated Daniel Lauby 5-4.
Robinson had previously won two PDC Development Tour titles and held a PDC Tour Card in 2012, 2013, 2019 and 2020.
On his way to the final, the 29-year-old triumphed against Prakash Jiwa (5-1), Kyle Richardson (5-1), Ryan Furness (5-3), Shane Price (5-1), Richie Burnett (5-1) and Cameron Menzies (5-2). In the final against Lauby, Robinson took a 4-2 lead, but struggled to actually decide the match. After three missed match-darts his American opponent came back to 4-4. In the last leg both players missed five match-darts, before Robinson took the win with a 22-darter.
The Challenge Tour circuit is open to players who have participated in the Q-School, but have not won a Tour Card.
Due to travel restrictions still in place due to the corona pandemic, this year's Challenge Tour has been split into a separate circuit for both British and European players. The winners of both tours will be allowed to participate in the upcoming World Championship and receive a PDC Tour Card for 2022 and 2023.
