Wayne Mardle joined
Emma Paton during the Sky Sports coverage post Premier League Darts finals night to discuss
Michael van Gerwen sealing his sixth title as well as his first major in 18 months.
"Van Gerwen found something from somewhere and the last leg Joe (Cullen) hit a 59 second shot and Michael jumped all over it and that was difference but to come out with more credit for Joe is a testament to how well he has played in this. For Van Gerwen, it's sheer and utter relief," he said on Sky Sports.
"When someone wins all the time, it's the case of I go there I'm favourite, I expect to win and there was definitely that about Van Gerwen up to a few years ago. But now it doesn't come that easy to him so you start to relish it abit more and realise that these moments are special and that was a special win for him."
For winning the title, MVG receives £275,000 which Mardle joked will last him a week as well as discussing his final thoughts on the first year under the new format.
"I know the life he lives, that'll last about a week. He'll buy some island off Madagascar or maybe Madagascar I don't know. This year's Premier League with the new format has been brilliant, it's been a joy from the start. That's one of the most enjoyable semi-finals and final I can recall, that was sheer darting drama."
